Fire Captain Wayne Wylie Retires

The event was certainly a milestone for everyone in the fire department. In a gathering of his family, friends, and firefighters, Captain Wylie was celebrated as a dedicated professional that has kept the department moving forward in its acquisition of new equipment from breathing apparatus to fireboats. After 38 years of service he is closing a chapter on yet another piece of our departmental history. During his career he has been responsible for innovations in breathing apparatus that have enhanced firefighter's ability to work more safely in confined spaces and has been responsible for teaching a generation of Portsmouth firefighters their craft. He is highly respected not only in his own department, but is recognized for his abilities throughout the region. It was a great pleasure to be among the many present to wish Wayne all the best and to be a part of this very notable occasion. For more photos see the PDF file here.
